Une hécatombe ! Les favoris du Tour ont tous connu des problèmes dans la 3e étape dont est sorti vainqueur le Belge Tim Merlier, après un final chaotique et une multiplication de chutes.

Les sprinteurs ont été concernés puisque l'Australien Caleb Ewan a entraîné au sol le Slovaque Peter Sagan dans les 200 derniers mètres. Roglic, qui lui aussi a chuté à 10 kilomètres de l'arrivée, a perdu près d'une minute sur son compatriote Tadej Pogacar.
